The date is his birthday- John Locke was a philosopher who is most known for TABULA RASA, which refers to people being born "blank slates". His POLITICAL philosophies contributed greatly to the ideology of CLASSICAL LIBERALISM as he believed that government should only protect life, liberty, and property or what is known as CIVIL LIBERTIES. Locke's idea of a SOCIAL CONTRACT was also that since people give power to the government, they should have the ability to take it away.
