1 janv. 322 av. J.-C. - The Maurya Empire

Description:

The Maurya Empire was first established in northern and central India by the ruler Chandragupta Maurya, as he was a strong leader that maintained a strong army. During his times, he developed a postal system. After his ruling came Ashoka, his grandson. When he became the new ruler, the Indian civilization blossomed as his empire covered 2/3 of the subcontinent. He gained this land with fierce wars of conquest and merciless armies. However, after witnessing the horrors of battle, he vowed to never go to war again. He then followed the teachings of Buddha, and spread Buddhism all over India. When he was ruling, laws were carved on rocks throughout the empire, and some of his many other accomplishments would be that he set up public hospitals, roads, and rest houses. When he died, the empire was then declined, as his successors took advantage of their power in a negative way. For example, they charged heavy taxes and took crops from poor workers. In return, people turned against them as a consequence.
