Feeling like they had the right to tax the colonists, parliament issued a series of taxes known as The Townshend Acts. Money helped pay for British troops in the colonies. Imported goods like paint, glass, lead, and tea were taxed. None of these items were made within the colonists. Colonists reacted by boycotting the items that were being taxed.
