1 nov 1861 - McClellan is appointed General-in-Chief
Description:
Despite McClellan's lack of taking action, Lincoln still had great faith in him and was very patient. Lincoln appointed him to the function of General-in-Chief on November 1, 1861, after the resignation of General Winfield Scott ("The U.S. Civil War 1861 - 1865", 1996). McClellan proceded his inactivity in the winter, and morale in the Union Army began to stagger again.
