Description:

In an attempt to draw Union troops away from the ongoing siege of Petersburg and Richmond, Confederate troops led by Early, moved into the north of Maryland. Early had made process until he reached the city of Frederick in Maryland, there a force of 6,000 Union troops under Wallace, were ordered to stop his progression. Though the battle was a Union defeat, it stopped Early from marching to Washing to and is thus called "the battle that saved Washington"
