In 333 BC, Alexander rode through the city of Gordium where he was shown the chariot of their ancient leader, tied to a pole by a intricate knot. Legend says whoever could untie the knot would be the future ruler of Asia. Boldly, Alexander took his sword and slashed the knot, successfully untying it.
