Chief Joseph surrenders breakaway band of ~700 Natives after long journey toward Canada (~1.7k miles); Hoped to rendezvous w/ Sitting Bull who took refuge there after Little Bighorn; Betrayed into believing they would return to ancestral lands in Idaho, sent to reservation in Kansas instead, 40% of natives died of disease, survivors return to Idaho eventually
