Description:

British soldiers under General Gage marched out of Boston to seize a patriot stash of guns and powder near the town of Concord. On April 19 a group of Massachusetts minutemen under Capt. John Parker gathered to meet the British at Lexington, Mass. Early in the morning the British had arrived. After a short battle 8 colonists were dead or dying. The British had won and they moved on to Concord. When the British arrived at Concord they couldn't find the well hidden gun powder so they set the town a blaze. Militia men then charged in and sent thE British running. During their retreat militia lined the route and harassed the British. By the end 74 British soldiers were dead and 200 missing or wounded. This showed that the colonists were willing to die for their cause and it shocked the British.
