21 sept. 1739 - Antoine de Lavoisier
Description:
Antoine Lavoisier was the first person the define the word "element" as a substance that cannot be broken down into smaller particles. He also discovered 23 different elements. He came to the discovery of 23 elements by performing experiments with very specific measurements and extremely precise observations. While doing experiments Lavoisier came to the conclusion that there are different mixtures of substances with in the different elements. He came to this conclusion because he realised that fire will burn in oxygen but if there was only oxygen in the air the fire would burn rapidly out of control. This led him to believe there are different substances in the air.
