1 janv. 1766 - Henry Cavendish (late 1700's)

Description:

Henry Cavendish was the first to discover "inflammable air", now known as hydrogen. Cavendish noticed that when mixing metals such as zinc and iron with acids such as hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid a gas was produced. Henry Cavendish was also able find the weight and density of hydrogen. He made this discovery by putting potassium carbonate in a tube with hydrogen and the potassium carbonate absorbed the liquid parts of the hydrogen. By measuring the different of the weight before and after the chemical reaction he could determine the weight and density of hydrogen.
