Hernan Cortes was a Spanish noble-turned-explorer who eventually brought about the demise of the Aztec empire. Cortes allied with many native tribes against the ruling Aztecs. He arrived with his army to the capital city of Tenochtitlan, where he was received by Aztec emperor Montezuma as if he was a divine envoy of the gods. Cortez took Montezuma hostage and proceeded to rule the Aztec empire by proxy. Cortes momentarily vacated the capital city in order to meet his reinforcement troops at the coast, and during g his absence the Aztecs rebelled. Cortes responded by leading a 3 month siege against Tenochtitlan, the end of which marked the official fall of the Aztec empire.Ajouté au bande de temps:
