Saroo spent well over years poring over the satellite images, methodically, repetitively. He described the experience as even being a little claustrophobic, the screen a small window he was relieving memories from his 5 year old mind.
Frustrated, a wild and reckless dive was taken into the haystack of thousands of zoomed in satellite images of India. It was the all too lucky shot that changed everything.

Saroo lands around a large, deep lake called Nal Damayanti Sagar. Curiously, there were no train lines in that part of the country. Saroo manages to find one, by the little blue train station symbol, and starts tracing along it out of sheer habit. He lands at another station. It is only on one side of the track, with the township spreading on either side. There is a pedestrian overpass, with a water tower nearby. He clicks the blue symbol to reveal the name of the station; Berhanpur.

Saroo still has no luck with the name "Ginestlay", so he zeroes in on another train station he remembers. It's Khandwa Railway Station; but that's a name he can't recall. Still though, he can't contain it any longer.

"Lisa! I've found my home town! You gotta come see this!"

Saroo tells his family too-they're skeptical at first, at the fact that somebody can supposedly find their lost hometown in a country they left and haven't been back to in over 25 years. Saroo knows though, it's time to go back to India again. Alone.
