30 janv. 1530 - Henry VIII ends Papal authority in England
Description:
Henry VIII wanted to divorce Catherine of Aragon, but the catholic church refused to annul his marriage, as Charles V (Catherine’s Nephew) also had troops in Rome at the time. Instead, Henry used Parliamentary procedure to end the authority of the pope and make himself head of the church. This gave way to the Anglican Church, a moderately protestant English church that is still the national church of England today and lead to bureaucratic and social changes in the population’s religious beliefs and the increase of state land holdings.
