1 sept. 1700 - Africans
Description:
There were between 10 to 20 million Africans brought to the New World and sold into slavery. Most of them went to British colonies. There were tens of thousands of African slaves in the British colonies. The slaves did not want to leave their home and be forced into slavery. Many of them went because they had to, it was life or death, they had no choice. If the African slaves could survive the “Middle Passage” then they would most likely with harsh lives as plantation slaves. If you are a plantation slave then your first priority would be the cultivation of the Planters crop. Some of the other duties slaves would have to perform would be to clear the land, build a fence, or perform other odd jobs as a circumstances dictate. The larger the plantation the harsher the working conditions. The living quarters of slaves were small and the food usually consisted of a few morsels of meat and bread. Slaves that lived on smaller Farms often enjoyed closer relations with their masters. Some Urban merchants and Artisans employed slave labor in their shops. Generally, slaves that lived in town had a greater freedom than those that lived on the farm and they met more people and became more worldly.
