Description:

The Committee of Public Safety was created in 1793 by the national convention, and was restructured in July 1793. The Committee of Public Safety was also known as the political body of the French Revolution. They gained virtual dictatorial control over France during the reign of terror September 5, 1793 - July 27, 1794.
The Committee of Public Safety formed the De Facto executive government in France during the reign of terror. The committee was to provide for the defense of the nation against its enemies, foreign and domestic and to oversee the already existing organs of executive government.
