Description:

After taking the helm of Soviet leadership at a time of economical need, Gorbachev identified the need to restructure soviet domestic policies. In turn, he introduced Perestoika (Economic/Political reform) and Glastnost (openness, to foreign economies). These policies were optimistic towards creating a social democracy, which would drive the economy forward.
