After tribes in Indiana had ceded vast lands to the United States, Tecumseh set out to unite all the Indians of the Mississippi Valley. Only together, he claimed, could they hope to half white expansion, recover the whole Northwest, and make the Ohio River the boundary between the United States and the Indian country.
