Star Wars Episode 1 a phantom menace was the first film to release digitally and started the end of film. Digital was much easier to make than film and cost a lot less to distribute making it easier for cinema's to access and play movies. it also meant that cinemas didn't have to hire trained employees to work the film digital is simple to use so can be easily managed. Also film doesn't last forever it can degrade and eventually die, digital on the other hand can go on forever.This all made life a lot easier but there are still people who use film for nostalgic and other reasons but most cinemas now only take digital as it is easier to use and cheaper.
