26 déc. 1776 - Battle of Trenton

Description:

On Christmas Day in 1776, Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River to march on Trenton. Only 1/3 of the army made it to Trenton due to bad weather. The Hessian forces in Trenton were 1,400 strong, unprepared, and exhausted. On the march, Washington divided his forces into flanks columns led by General Nathaniel Greene and General John Sullivan while Colonel Henry Knox stayed in the center and fired artillery at the garrison. The Hessian Leader, Rahl, was shot off of his horse and killed which swiftly caused the Hessian forces to surrender. This battle lasted only an hour and resulted in a much needed morale boost and volunteer influx for the Revolutionary Army. 22 Hessians were killed, 90 wounded, 918 captured, and 400 escaped. 2 Americans froze to death and 5 were wounded.
