saves
Constantinople
Description:
623
Constantinople was frequently beseiged by Turkish, Germanic, and Slavic forces. In one instance in 623, the city was spared from capture. The miraculous event was attributed to an icon of Christ which was paraded around the city. Similar episodes occurred with icons of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the late 7th and early 8th centuries.
