The Treaty of Utrecht was a peace deal which ended two decades of continuous warfare between France, and England over disputes for Spanish Succession. This deal ended the constant warfare occurring in northeastern North America. The treaty itself introduced a "30 year peace" agreement. The treaty forced France to give its claims to the Hudson Bay area, Newfoundland, and Acadia. New France was dependent on controlling the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. This is what contributed to the French building the fortress Louisbourg at Cape Breton Island to Protect the Gulf, and gateway to New France.Ajouté au bande de temps:
