Description:

After the fall of Port Royal in, and the seizing the of Nova Scotia by the British in Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 the French needed to build a fortified town to protect the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. In the treaty of Utrecht France retained Ile Royale (Cape Breton Island), and it was there that the French would build this town. Here the fortress/city of Louisbourg was built.
