Haiti gained independence in 1803 as a result of their revolution. This revolution took place all over Haiti and there were many causes as to they they revolted, like the discrimination that the lower classes were facing. One of the main leaders of the revolution was Toussaint L'Ouverture, who was very influential in helping abolish slavery and gain independence from France.
