21 janv. 1200 - Tartar Cloths

Description:

Import of silk and gold textiles - Marco Polo’s accounts had stressed the wealth and luxury of the Mongol court of Genghis Khan’s grandson Kublai Khan (r.1260–95) in China, and the import of silk and gold textiles only seemed to confirm his descriptions. One of these textiles is imitated, for example, in the sumptuous cloth-of-gold cloak worn by the angel Gabriel in Simone Martini and Lippo Memmi’s Annunciation painted for the Cathedral of Siena in 1333
