September 11th Attacks (September 11th, 2001) - Also referred to 9/11, this series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by Islamic group al-Qaeda killed 2,996 people, injured over 6,000 others, and cost at least $10 million in damages. The United States responded by launching the War on Terror and invaded Afghanistan. Many countries strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded the powers of law enforcement and intelligence agencies to prevent terrorist attacks. It led to stricter safety policies and unfortunately still fuels hate against Muslim Americans, despite their opposition to 9/11 and immediate response to "come forward with their skills and resources to help alleviate the sufferings of the affected people and their families."Ajouté au bande de temps:
