28 mai 1830 - Indian Removal Act signed

Description:

Indian Removal Act (May 28, 1830) - President Andrew Jackson signed a law authorizing the negotiations with southern Native American tribes for their removal to federal territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their land. It was signed by Jackson and enforced under his and Van Buren's administration. Supported strongly by the people of the South, obvious resistance was found within certain tribes, especially the Cherokee who worked as an independent nation to stop the relocation. They were eventually forcibly removed by the US government in a march known as the Trail of Tears.
