Description:
France was divided in to a rigid class structure where nobility and members of the church has more rights than regular citizens. France was in financial trouble due to lavish spending of the king and partly because it had assisted in the funding of the American Revolution. During the revolution, the French people fought for equality rights. The "Declaration of the Rights of Man" was signed in 1789.
The French Revolution assisted in the development of classical liberalism in that they established a foundational document that outlined the rights and freedoms of all. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen serves as a clear indication of how the principles of liberalism came to influence French society.
