9 sept. 1976 - VHS vs betamax

Description:

in 1977 Japanese company matsuei introduced vhs to the general public as a way to record shows and films from the tv and for companies to realise there films after cinema viewing and they were widely successful being released in 1976 in japan then 1977 in united states and the vsr allowed for shows to be easily recorded on to blank vhs tapes and play them back however VHS did not exist without competition the big one being betamax the Sony competitor released early in 1975 a year before vhs however this would not save it from being trampled by the vhs as they were cheaper to purchase, more available and was the only one that could be used on a vsr as well as having more storage space than the aforementioned betamax all these factors along with the wider consumer appeal of vhs lead to most other products seeming inferior like the Betamax and Laserdisc even if they were superior on any kind of level like the betamax which looked visually cheaper but was beaten out by the cheaper mor comon vhs
