28 oct. 1215 - Magna Carta

Description:

A charter of rights agreed to by the King of England; King John. Created to settle issues between the Crown and rebel barons, Magna Carta gave protection to the Barons, the Church, and all men in Great Britain. It focussed on the rights of free men, including the change to feudal taxes making some require the Barons' consent. The charter led to the rule of Constitutional law and despite being annulled shortly after it was one of the first charters presenting the rule of law as it pushed for equality before the law, even amongst royalty.

The Magna Carter presented individual rights as some of the foundations to later charters in England which followed classic liberalism thinking.
