Description:
First to correctly suppose that the cell membrane was composed of lipids. Observed the bizarre nature of the cell membrane in water. When cut in half, it would re-form back into a circular membrane. Quincke related the cell membrane to the oil membrane first observed by Franklin. He believed it to be less than 100nm thick.
