Description:

After the Turks succeeded in gaining control of Egypt in 1517, Arab supremacy in the Maghreb began to decline. The location of Egypt made it easier for the Turks to penetrate to North Africa as it provide a base for westward expansion for the Turkish occupation of the territory during that time.
