12 mars 1947 - Truman Doctrine
Description:
During WW2 and for years following, Britain had control over countries such as Palestine, India and Egypt. The end of WW2 however meant that Britain had troops also posted in Greece and Turkey, where they would be financially supported to do so by the US, possessing a loan from them of 3.75 Billion Pounds. By 1947 this loan was exhausted, meaning that these two countries were vulnerable to acquisition under the Soviet State.
It is here that Truman presented to the US Congress, a declaration that the US would provide political, economical and military aid to any state under threat made by internal or external Communist forces, threat or takeover without formal consent by the state.
