Description:

Appeared: 1879 from the bacteria streptococcus pyogenes.
Caused by: Lack of sanity measures when delivering children.
Mortality Rates: 18th century - 5-20% of woman would die in maternity hospitals and at home. 70-100% would die from clinics/hospitals.
Effect: Ignaz Semmelweis developed a way to drop the mortality rates by telling his staff to place their hands in chlorine before taking care of patients. However no one believed him despite him proving that there was a decrease in the mortality rates by doing his method.
Symptoms: Headache, elevated temp., chills, vomiting, dry tongue and lips, abdominal pain.
Other effects: There was no antibiotic for it till 1930s. Still occurs today in resource poor areas.
