Description:

The Spanish American War had started when America began to help Cuba in their war for independence against Spain. America started to intervene in the war when the American warship, USS Maine, exploded mysteriously off the coast of Cuba. Many people believed that the Spanish sabotaged and caused the ship to explode, and so the democratic party pressured President McKinley to fight in a war that he was trying his best to avoid. The war took place in the year of 1898 and lasted only ten weeks. The war took place in both the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean. At the end of the war, America gained temporary control of America and forced Spain to cede ownership of a few islands.
