This year marks the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States and the UK, as the first cases of rare pneumonia (Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia or PCP) in young gay men are reported, later found to be HIV/Aids. At this stage doctors believed that the disease only affect gay men.
