29 déc. 1847 - Ariadne

Description:

Godden (1968) p.160 suggests that the changeover from the earlier biscuit china to the new Parian was ‘perhaps slow to take full effect’ and cites as evidence the letter of Dec 29th, 1847 referencing Ariadne; ‘If Ariadne would do in our Parian material, instead of Bisque China, we could send it immediately…Please let us know. The Parian is much preferred for statuary’.
Godden goes on to suggest that the ‘popularity of Parian figures, and the consequent delay in meeting orders, is evidenced in letter of December 29th, 1847: ‘…We shall be able to send you tomorrow the following figures…1 St. Joseph; 1 x Madonna, no crown; 1 Wellington; 2 x 1/- (large size) Ariadnes ; 1 Shepherdess. WE hope to have 4 Dorotheas ready for you Saturday next. The Mercury will be ready about the 8th January. WE have not a single copy of Noami remaining, and it will be near a month before we can send you a copy.
