Description:
The Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4, 1776, by the the Continental Congress. It consisted of two parts: the theory that governments were made to protect the rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” and then a list of grievances against the king. Most colonists rejoiced at the news of the Declaration, but some disapproved and were still loyal to the king.
