The experiment that Rutherford did was that he sent a beam of alpha particles on a gold foil. This then showed the result of alpha particles bouncing back, which was a result he didn't intend to see.
Discovery:
Ernest Rutherford then discovered the nucleus, due to how alpha rays bounced back, instead of going through the gold lining.
Model:
In the model, it shows an alpha ray shooting through a gold sheet. the alpha rays bounced through and back, which were then detected by a circular circumference.
