Description:
"Nat Turner, an enslaved Baptist preacher believing himself divinely inspired, leads a violent rebellion in Virginia. At least 57 whites are killed.The conflict inspired by Nat Turner's Rebellion led to the execution of more than 50 alleged conspirators, and local militias murdered twice that number of suspects. The incident also led to discussion of abolition in the legislature, although Virginia ultimately remained a slave state."
