26 déc. 1908 - Race and Culture - Jack Johnson

Description:

Jack Johnson was the first ever African American to become a heavyweight champion. He was considered to be one of the greatest of all time.
He was significant during that time as the majority of people where turned away from someone of colour. He showed that he was more that what race/culture he was from. The belongs on the timeline with the others because during that era there were a lot of white supremacists, therefore people of African-American descent were looked down upon and where deemed the same as Caucasians. He rose beyond that and proved that he could preform just as well as any white man.
