Description:
- Husak had taken control after the Prague Spring and initiated a period of 'normalisation'- yielded the position to the younger and more progressive Jakes
- Jakes encouraged reform, but not to the point of negotiating with the opposition
- eventually resigned during the Velvet Revolution
