5 mai 1789 - Estates general meeting

Description:

The Estates general meeting was an assembly created with members representing the estates. Until the meeting in 1789, the meeting had not been called since 1614. The meeting consisted of representatives from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd estates, who had one vote each. It was called by King Louis in response to the financial troubles and unrest in France. The Estates general was ended when the 3rd estate left and became the National Assembly, inviting the other two estates also.
