Classical republicanism is the theory that the greatest type of society are the ones that focus on the common good of the community instead of only the interests and well being of one certain group of citizens. Classical republics are supposed to work all together in their society to achieve the common good. The classical republics stemmed from societies that were a “classical” style. The founders of classical republicanism studied the history of the classical periods and the one that influenced their ideas the most was the Roman Republic. The people of classical republicanism believed that the society would only have common good if the citizens all had the characteristics of; civic virtue, moral education, and small, uniform communities.

The Classical Republics were important because it established the United States as the first modern nation to have a republican form of government. The classical republics produced citizens that had the interest of promoting common good for the society.
