Description:

Sinclair publishes this novel to reveal the unsanitary conditions of the meat packing-industry. This novel captured the attention of the public and Congress was urged to pass the Pure Food and Drug Act.

This law forced companies to correctly brand their food and drugs. It also created the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

-this law did not outlaw medicines containing opiates or cocaine, it only iterated that things containing these drugs must be properly labeled
