Description:

1524-25; amidst crop failures + continued financial abuse by nobles, aNgErY peasants demand reform, citing scripture, radical thinkers, and Luther

Luther supported them at first, but once rebellions actually broke out he backed off; published "Against the Murderous, Thieving Hordes of the Peasants" condemning them

Nobility ferociously crushed them- 75,000+ peasants were murdered

EFFECTS:
- marginal improvement of peasant life/land
-great increase in strength of lay rulers
- reformation loses a lot of its appeal, many rebellious peasants ousted from radical groups
