Taken by Nicéphore Niépce, this is widely considered to be the oldest surviving camera photograph. It was taken at Saint-Loup-de-Varennes in France.It shows buildings surrounding his estate, Le Gras, as seen from a high window.
This is significant due to the fact this is the oldest surviving photo; it shows a progression in technology, and shows camera technologies started from a humble beginning.
