On August 15, 1534 the Jesuit Order was founded by St. Ignatius. The society of Jesus is scholarly religious congregation of the Catholic Church. St. Ignatius vision was to help others seek god in all things, and it to be a new religious order. But it wasn’t until 1540 that the pope approved it to be a new order. They believed that the reform of the Catholic Church, began with the reform of the individual. Jesuit missionaries played a leading role in the counter reformation, and won back many of the European faithful who had been lost to Protestantism.
