Description:
In 1534 Jacques Cartier was sent by the French king, King Francis to the new world in search of riches and a new route to Asia. His exploration of the St. Lawrence River allowed France to lay claim to lands that would become Canada. Cartier kidnapped two native sons Dom Agaya and Taignoagny from Iroquoian Chief Donnacana, thats their father’s village of Stadacona (present day Quebec) was called kanata, where Cartier wrote Kanata on his charts and maps, making this the first recorded use of the name Canada. Where the Gulf of St. Lawrence was discovered and charted for the first time, first trading between Europeans and Natives of the New World.
