Description:

Hernan Cortes was first a soldier in an expedition of Cuba led by Diego Velazquez in 1511. Then in 1519 when he ignored orders and travelled into Mexico with about 500 men and 11 ships, with setting his sights on overthrowing ruler Montezuma II at the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan. But the Aztecs did manage to drive them away from Tenochtitlan, but not for long. He eventually took Montezuma hostage and his soldiers raided the city. But Cortes left the city after he found out that the Spanish soldiers were coming to arrest him.
