Martin Luther wrote the Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences, which is also known as the 95 Theses. Which is a document attacking the Catholic Church is corrupt practice of selling indulgences to absolve sin. Legend has it that on October 31, 1517 Luther nailed a copy of it to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church. The piece was to put forward two central beliefs, that the Bible is the central religious authority and that humans may reach salvation only by, their faith and not by deeds. This document divided the Catholic Church and the Protestantism was emerged, which was shaped by Luthers ideas.
